The Doll Festival and Cherry Blossom Viewing

March  (Yayoi)
The Doll Festival
March 3 is Hina-matsuri or the Doll Festival, a celebration for girls.  On this day, parents wish for their young girls’ healthy growth and happiness, and have hina arare (sweet snack) and a feast at home.
Families with young girls display hina dolls from the beginning of February through March 3 every year.   Legend has it if you put the hina dolls back late, your girls will be married late. Girls are raised with care and bring their hina dolls( which are carefully wrapped and stored when not on display) with them when they get married.

April (Uzuki)
Japanese people think of cherry blossoms when they hear the words “flower viewing”.  Historically, cherry blossoms have been the most cherished flowers in Japan.
When the cherry blossom season is coming, people’s hearts are filled with joy.   Cherry blossom viewing is one of the most popular pastimes in spring.
Cherry blossoms have always been special flowers to the Japanese people.
In Japan there are graduation ceremonies for schools in March and entrance ceremonies in April.
